Called Missoula Power Equipment with two questions. Asked what it would cost for a mower tune-up. Quick answer of $45 plus parts, but then started saying he would probably have to rebuild the carb (mind you, this is even before I've said anything about my mower or why I want/might need a tune-up). I find it weird he's already saying the carb needs to be rebuilt without any information besides I own a basic push mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine. That is what it is, could be good just trying to warn customers of what it could come up to. I'll take that with a grain of salt. What made me decide to literally just end the call is after I told him my Briggs and Stratton engine, (which at first I misspoke and just said mower, which he went off for a bit about how they don't make mowers, even after I mentioned I misspoke because it's the engine that I am having issues with), that the engine has never started well and just won't start now. That it has a 2 year warranty on it and then was trying to ask if they find defective parts would they go through the warranty to repair. Before I can even finish speaking to the warranty, the person on the line cuts me off, tells me that gas left in it over winter isn't covered under warranty and they'd have to charge. I get that might happen a lot, but don't cut off the customer when they are trying to explain and ask a question, especially with assumptions. I just got back from San Diego, the mower has been used weekly for just over a year. It hasn't been used for two weeks during the move. I drained it of gas before I moved (requirement of the moving company). I explained that no gas was left in over winter and then started to again ask about if they work through Briggs and Stratton warranty for defective parts. He cuts me off again, talks about how leaving gas in wouldn't be covered and that's why it's having issues starting. I started to try and ask my question again, but just gave up and said never mind and hung up. Maybe the guy on the phone was having a bad day, but don't take it out on a potential customer. I was planning on dropping it off, expecting the tune-up charge but just wanted to be reassured if there was something defective they would work through the warranty. Now after such a bad initial experience, I don't think I'll take any business there and recommend others to stay away. Plenty of places in town to choose from, so Missoula Power Equipment should work on their initial customer service a little bit and actually listen to a customer.
